We took Ian to the monster “yuck” (truck) show that played downtown on the 16th. To say that he had a “good time” would probably be the understatement of the century.

He literally sat still for over 2 hours. Literally. To anyone with a toddler, this has got to be a world record. I don’t think he’s sat still that long in a 6 month period.

Ian was absolutely in love with the show. There was a ton of trucks. Trucks that did tricks. Trucks that raced fast. Trucks that were REALLY loud. And bikes too! Lots of bike tricks to watch.

Ian just kind of whispered “yuck” under his breath in awe….did “set! “DOE”!!!” when they were racing….said “bye bye ‘yucks'” and “‘dint doo'” when we left. It was so cute.

We’ll definitely have to go again!

Below are some pictures of our day….as usual, more pictures are posted on our shutterfly site!

Here are a few videos from the event!

Ian in heaven!
(please ignore the fact that I totally forgot the camera was turned the wrong way)

Some crazy bikes!!!

LOOK AT THE TRUCK GO!

Or, I guess you could name this post, “Ian’s first time playing in snow”. 🙂

So despite the fact that we live in a region that the entire nation has identified as THE Snow Capital of THE EARTH, we’ve NEVER taken Ian out to play in the snow.

Literally.

In 2 yrs.

His first winter he was too little. Since he was born in late February, there was no “playing in the snow” occuring outside of taking him in and out of the house in his infant carseat.

Then, last year he wasn’t interested. He was barely was walking and [**bad parent alert**] it was just too hard to fit in with Mike and I both working full time and it getting dark at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Weeeeeelllll, since we got close to 2 ft of snow this past weekend, were pretty much house-bound and had a sled, snowpants and boots collecting dust, I thought we might go out for a bit. I was a little worried because in the last few weks, Ian has been a little freaked out by walking in the snow (I have no idea why) and the child REFUSES (and I do mean REFUSES) to wear gloves.

We bundled him up (which was a project that left me sweaty and exhausted) and took him out. Of course, it was like 20 degrees so we were only out for 10 mins but he had a ton of fun. Now that I think of it, I think the bundling part took longer than the playing part. haha

Anyway, Ian had TONS of fun. Lots of “wow”s and “weeee”s while kicking back on his Daddy-driven sled. He spent the rest of the day asking to go out (“bye bye? BYE BYE?!?!”). Unfortunately it was just too darn cold out.

Checking out all the snow:

Going off for his first spin on the sled:
Checking the neighborhood out:

Daddy and Ian (like Mike’s snowblowing gear? ):

He loved it!

BTW, for my observant readers, those are socks on his hands. I cannot get him to wear mittens to save my life and since it was so cold out, it was the only thing I could think to cover his hands.
Trying to put mittens on him involves a wrestling match, Ian throwing a fit, me getting irritated and no mittens being worn. He was totally confused by the socks but I put them on last and rushed him out the door before he could figure out what was going on. Once we were outside, the snow and sled distracted him from The Evil Hand Covers. Of course, you’ll also notice that he doesn’t really know what to do with his hands in the pictures. He just kinda held them out in front of him like they were broken. haha
As always, lots more pictures on Shutterfly!!!!

After Ian’s spectacular performance at his 18mo well child visit (if you’ve forgotten, check out this link: http://tinyurl.com/2msv7d), I was hoping for a much calmer 2yo visit.

Hoping. Yes. Getting? Not so much.

His drs appt this morning pretty much went the same as the 18mo appt. He’s Mr. Personality the entire time we were in the waiting room and examining room w/ the nurse.

And then they force him to get on the “scale of doom”. I’ve been talking to him about this appt but I just don’t think he understood what the heck I was saying and the scale scared the bajesus out of him.

He refused to stand on the big boy scale. Wigged OUT. Screaming. Doing the “jello legs” thing and refusing to stand.

So the nurse puts him on the baby scale. Which is cold (he hates being cold) and is also, apparently, terrifying.

Once the fit started….there was no stopping it. He pretty much screamed for the duration of our visit. Well over 30 mins btw waiting for the dr to come in, the drs visit, getting dresssed and back out the door.

We got the normal questions as well as a few new ones:
Does he know body parts? Some
Does he say 2 word sentences? Rarely
Jumping yet? Nope
Potty training yet? Nope (ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!??!)

His speech seems fairly normal. Of course, this was all based off of our description since Little Man Tink was SCREAMING the entire time. Dr said to keep an eye out for continuous improvement and if we feel he isn’t progressing steadily or even regressing to give them a call for an EI analysis. I thought that was a reasonable direction to take. I think in the last month or so he’s improved a TON.

Head banging during tantrums is normal and for attention. It will eventually stop….

Ian had to have a finger prick to test his hemoglobin and iron levels. Not a happy camper but then, he’d already been screaming for HOURS, ok maybe 25 mins.

We don’t have to go back until he’s 3yo or if we think he needs to be seen before then…..lets hope the scale isn’t quite so scary next year.

Ian was:
weight: 28lbs 6oz (55th percentile)
height: 37.5 inches (>97th percentile)
head: 82nd percentile

Long, lean and a giant head. Pretty much the same story since he was born. 🙂

Due to the fact that we’ll soon have an addition to our family, I’ve decided to make a change to our Shutterfly website. “MyBabyIan.shutterfly.com” no longer exists!

Please change your bookmarks to the following address:

http://thesamulskifamily.shutterfly.com/action/

Thank you!

(I know I’m a bad blogger but work has been a madhouse and between THAT, being pregnant, being a mom to a toddler and various other things, I’m behind! I will have an update soon with pictures of my brand new nephew as well as Ian’s SECOND birthday!)
