The day after Ian’s 5th birthday, I went to Virginia with my parents and Rachel to celebrate Kaitlyn’s 1st birthday. Ian got two Lego sets for his birthday and I asked Mike to set them aside so that I could build them with Ian’s help when I returned. I had the Monday following our trip off of work so Ian and I set to work building his new castle.

The two Lego sets had (literally) 4 booklets of instructions. It took four hours, start-to-finish, to get everything built. By the time we were done, my fingers were bruised from putting everything together.
After lots of interruptions by Mr. Under The Recommended Age For Playing With Legos, I set up a Thomas movie in the living room. I found this about 30 minutes later when it got a little too quiet for my tastes.
With Mr. Grabby Hands off in his bed upstairs, Ian and I got to work finishing up the castle. Here he is posing with the finished product.

Update on Lego Kingdoms:
The castle is dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. I’d say within a month of being built, Matthew decimated the castle and nothing was left but tiny, Lego rubble. LOL
At the moment, Ian is really into playing with the Lego “guys” so we left the little caste guards and their weapons out to play with but packed up all the pieces to the buildings. I’m just hoping that the down the road, whenever we decide to re-build the castle, there will be enough pieces to finish it. Between Matthew pulling all the pieces apart and the cat batting them around, I have a feeling we’re going to have a half-built castle. Oh well!
Your Matthew commentary made me laugh out loud. I find it so cool how similar our kids our – Ryan seems so much like Ian, and Danny and Matthew seem to share a healthy dose of spunk. 🙂
