Ian’s preschool teacher assigns homework to her class and also is sending home extra work for Ian because he is able to read. I took some pictures this week of him working on his assignment and video of him reading his book.

His regular homework assignments usually involve practicing writing letters and some other fairly simple task (tracing, cutting, etc). Last week, he had to practice writing the letter “L” and tracing straight lines.

After that, Mike and Ian read the book Mrs. Goulette sent home and then worked on the homework for that. His homework for the book is a simple “review” form. It asks questions about whether the book was too easy, too hard or just right and what parts he liked/disliked. The writing aspect is hard for Ian so Mike usually asks him for his answers, prints at the bottom of each section and has Ian copy the sentences in the space provided.

The video is just shy of 14 minutes long but I wanted to get it all recorded. Ian gets a bit testy at the end of the video but it was nearly 8PM and he was tired.

We ended up sending the extra/reading homework in unfinished this weekend. I want to encourage the reading and not put Ian “off” by pushing too much homework at this point. Hopefully this week we can do the homework over a few days so as not to burn him out! 🙂

Please keep in mind, this was the first time Ian had read the book. Any of the words that he didn’t know, he was seeing for the first time. 🙂 He’s supposed to read the book multiple times per week but this week was a little hectic for us so he only got to read it 2x (the night before his homework was due)!

What a smart boy!
