I was mentally planning Ian’s big boy bedroom for probably about a year before we actually started the project.  Once I realized we were in danger of sending our child to Kindergarten while still sleeping in a toddler bed, I figured we really needed to get moving.  Thankfully, his room came together pretty quickly and we were able to get it all pulled together before school started.

One of my bigger hang ups was whether to let the boys share the bigger bedroom while they were still young enough to cooperate.  Since Ian didn’t want to leave his current/smaller room, we didn’t want to mess around with their current sleep habits (Matthew = good sleeper, Ian = not so much), AND we didn’t want to spend the money on two new  beds/bedding sets, we just decided to leave the boys in their current rooms and just focus on  redecorating Ian’s room.

Here’s what the room looked like before we started:

And….AFTER!

The room doesn’t quite look as “yellow” as it does in the above picture.   The paint color is Natural Linen and perfectly matches the linen pillow on Ian’s bed.

This is the view to the right of the doorway/at the foot of the bed:

  • The bowling pin was Ian’s gift from his 5th birthday party – the one all of his friends signed.
  • The trophy is the one Ian received this summer from t-ball.
  • We put one of Ian’s t-ball pictures in that little baseball frame.  That frame was one of the favors we gave out at Matthew’s 1st birthday party. 🙂
  • The baseball is signed by Don Mattingly.
  • I have no idea who signed the basketball.  There are actually 2 autographs on there.  They can’t be too important because Mike didn’t care that I was using the ball in Ian’s room. LOL
  • The volleyball was one that my sister Rachel used in school back when she still played volleyball.

The wall color in the picture above is much closer to the real wall color.

  • The item in the frame is a share of Walt Disney stock that Ian received for his baptism from Mike’s best friend.
  • The green pennant is from Mike’s high school.
  • The “SH” on the wall behind the globe came off my school jacket that I wore in middle school.  This is the same school Ian and Matthew will attend, if we don’t move out of the district at some point.
  • The navy/gold pennant behind the globe is from the college that Mike and I both graduated from.

So, there it is: Ian’s new room!

Ian really seems to like it and Matthew keeps asking when he is getting a big boy bed.  Time to start researching options for Matthew’s room!!!

We actually finished Ian’s room a month ago and I have pictures to share from that (as well as Matthew’s first day of school).  Unfortunately, the second we finished Ian’s room, we started another project.

We are currently painting the living room, dining room, stairwell and upstairs hallway.  Not only are we putting 2-3 coats of paint on the walls but the ceiling needed painted and we’re painting all our wood trim white.  Our painting project also resulted in us getting new curtains/curtain rod for the living room and a few other miscellaneous house purchases (coat rack, shelving for the living room, buffet for the dining room).  I need to order pictures to put up on the wall and am trying to figure out wall layout first.  I’d like a new dining room table set and have my eye on one at IKEA but I’m not sure that’s going to happen right now.   We’ve pretty much been bleeding cash and working on house projects every waking moment.  I’m tired.  Energizer Bunny Mike doesn’t seem phased but I’m tired.

The good news is we’re almost done with the wall/ceiling painting part of the project.  Once that is done, we’re going to focus on getting the trim painted, including brand new trim up on the wall that had the plastic paneling.    Once THAT is done, we’ll probably start hanging pictures and stuff on the walls.  I’m hoping we can get done with this project by the end of October.  We shall see.

For now, here’s pretty much the only wall that has both the wall and trim completely painted.

I think it looks pretty. 🙂

Our trip to Darien Lake was early enough in the bedroom redo process that I was still contemplating a theme for Ian’s new bedroom.  I was thinking of maybe just doing a general vintage theme so I took some pictures of the big Ferris Wheel with the intent to vintage-fy them.

One of my original pictures:

We decided to stick with a sports theme so the Ferris Wheel pictures were scrapped but I really liked them…..
