We took our annual trip to Kelkenberg Farm on Columbus Day.  It was a really beautiful day and perfect for a trip to the farm.

Any guesses as to which of us was tired, hungry, and grumpy? LOL

The pumpkins back at home waiting to be carved….

Ian’s Cub Scout Pack had an Enchanted Forest nature walk at Beaver Meadow Audubon Center in North Java.  When we arrived, the Beaver Meadow Audubon Center was set up with carnival games, crafts, face painting, and treats.  We spent a while playing games and winning informational cards that told us about the animals that live in the nature preserve.  When it was our turn for the tour, we were taken along a pumpkin-lit path through the forest and met various animals that live in the forest.  The animals (adults in costumes) told us all about their lives and we all learned a lot.  After our walk was over, we were treated with cider and donuts.

You can see some of the jack-o-lanterns that dotted the path in this picture.  I was told there were roughly 200 pumpkins along the path.  I can’t imagine how long it took to carve that many pumpkins and light that many candles.

Playing a few games:

Matthew got his face painted like a cat.  LOL

Having cider and donuts after the tour.  Ian’s friend Rachel has an older brother in Cub Scouts so she was at the event too.  She came with us on the tour.

Pooped out on the way home:

It was a lot of fun!

The Ellicott Creek Fire Company was having an open house in October so we made plans to take the boys.  It worked out well because Ian’s Cub Scout pack was planning to man a table to sell popcorn.  We signed Ian up for a one hour shift but unfortunately he didn’t sell any popcorn. 🙁

Most of our visit was spent waiting in line for Matthew to get a balloon animal.  LOL

Shockingly (NOT), he chose a white cat.  LOL

Posing with a few of the trucks.

This ladder truck was being used to do drills on a nearby building (it wasn’t on fire, it was fake smoking somehow LOL):

This is where Matthew’s inability to read comes in handy:  the boys have no idea what we’re planning.  We’re thinking about keeping it a secret and telling them before we board the plane for California. 🙂   I’m just not sure I’m capable of keeping that kind of secret for so long.  LOL
