Mike and Ian

We get daily report cards from school on how Ian does each day. On Tuesday, we got one that had a comment:
He’s having trouble keeping his hands to himself around Hailey
I asked Ian about it on Tuesday and got an unintelligible response back with a “Hay-wee” and shy giggle at the end. I have no idea what he said….
I emailed his teacher on Wednesday to ask what had happened so that I could talk to him about it.
This was her response:
Good morning!
Ian kept wanting to hug Hailey while we were lining up after gym. I also noticed him standing very close to her (she put her hands out to move him away) while they were at the puzzle table. He’s being nice, but our rule is hands to self at school. Plus, I could tell that he was upsetting Hailey by what he was doing.
It sounds to me like Ian’s got a little bit of a crush on Hailey!!!
We’ve talked a bit since then about him needing to ask Hailey if he could hug her before he does so….but its hard to explain to him that he can’t hug her. He just likes her. You know?
According to Rachel’s conversation with his teacher at pickup today, apparently Ian was able to keep his hands to himself. 🙂
Overall, it was pretty uneventful.
Damn I love that kid. After my last experience at the pediatrician’s office with Ian, I was very glad to have a very low-key appointment yesterday. I really can’t say it enough. Matthew is such a good, laid-back, easy-going baby. Even as the little bugger is leaning away from me and fighting to get down on the floor. 🙂
His appointment was during naptime and of course, he fell asleep on the way there. By the time I got him out of his carseat and into the waiting room of the office, he’d woken up. Being the happy guy that he is, he was all smiles in the waiting room and even made a new friend. A GIRL friend. Taking notes from his big bro, huh? (More on that in my next post)
We were taken back to an examining room. I answered the reg ol’ questions and Matthew just looked around/babbled. Did the scale/weight, length and head measurements and the boy never even peeped. Love that kid! The nurse left and while we waited for the doctor, Matthew *almost* fell asleep in my arms. Given a few more minutes, I think he would have been out cold. The doctor did his normal exam and Matthew just played with his stethescope and wiggled on my lap.
Weight: 21lbs 2oz (61st percentile)
Length: 29.76 in (95th+ percentile)
His length has been pretty much steady in the percentile dept.
Dr. Tom seemed a little surprised with Matthew’s food intake but he’s always been a big eater. He really didn’t pursue it much with me. Just said that I’d likely see a drop off in formula as he shifts towards more solids. Told us to work on sippy cup usage and to start phasing out toward whole/2% milk as we get closer to his 1st birthday.
On the topic of his weight, here are his weight measurements/percentiles from now back to his 1 month appointment:
9mo: 21lbs 2oz (61st percentile)
6mo: 19lbs 1oz (76th percentile)
4mo: 16lbs 13oz (81st percentile)
2mo: 13lbs 1oz (75th percentile)
1mo: 10lbs 4oz (50th percentile)
Right now we follow Matthew’s lead on food intake. He takes a bottle just about every 3 hrs except when he’s had baby/table food. Or the occassional time where he feels compelled to sleep through the night. He’s getting about 48oz of formula and 2-3 small meals of baby food, table food and/or cereal.
His weight gain seems to have slowed a bit (per above). When Dr. Tom showed me Matthew’s weight plotted on a chart against the “percentiles”, you could see that Matthew was consistently above the 50th percentile marker but that he was starting to flatten out against the curve. Meaning his growth (weight) was slowing down against the averages….which agrees with the info above. The dork in me found that fascinating. 🙂
Anyway…we go back in June for his 12mo appointment. I can’t believe he’ll be one in 3 short months!
